This is going to be a quick one. Please pay attention, or you'll miss it. Why are people snarky and in their feelings about Jenna Bush Hager mistaking "Hidden Figures" for "Hidden Fences," combining two premieres, blockbuster, Hollywood movies, "Fences" and "Hidden Figures" staring, by and about Black people?
- There were only two such films. Keep them straight. "Moonlight" is in another category.
- There was a teleprompter. Oops. Yes, there were other mistakes. Oops. However, for minority people who used to deal with a majority space, this was classic.
- Mistakes under pressure reveal latent __________.
- Same old, same old
It's reminiscent of being called by the name of another Black / Latin / Asian student in class, a department professional, or a member of the sports team. We live a lifetime of wondering why some can't try to see us.
Folk was feeling for Pharrell and his superb restraint while on the job. Many have been there and know how it feels, and what follows is the expected gracious forgiveness.
- Folk weren't angry until White people told them they didn't have the right to be upset.
- Some aren't angry about the blunder as much as they are livid that others don't know when to shut up and observe. Not everyone has to respond to comments/jokes regarding the gaffe.
People are fed up and not standing for the same old. What was OK yesterday is called out today. This happens when you continuously poke the dragon.
P.S.:
No one knows if Michael Keaton legitimately made a mistake or was teasing/mocking Hager. But if two made that error, it wreaks of an inside joke.
P.P.S.:
The resulting jokes are funny. Stop being so sensitive. 🤔 She's still sitting on her crystal pedestal.
"CAN WE PLEASE GET BACK TO POLITICS?"
"Y.O.!"
